This first-place winning competition scheme revitalizes the plaza and podium of Viljo Revell's iconic Toronto City Hall. Increased perimeter vegetation and a new podium level roof garden increases biomass of the site and encourages public occupation of underutilised public space. The 1500 m2 occupiable intensive green roof is designed as a didactic landscape that reflects microclimates on site. Planting height and coloration vary to visually register the levels of sunlight available around the shadows cast by City Hall Towers, which act as giant gnomens on the site.
